The website statscloud.app uses cookies to help distinguish you from other users and provide you with a better experience overall when using the website. The following cookie policy explains what cookies are, what cookies are in use on statscloud.app, what they all do, and how you can switch them off.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a very small file (consisting of letters or numbers) that stores some information about your interaction with a website on your device. A cookie, for instance, might store information about whether you're logged into a website or what preferences you have chosen when using that website. Cookies allow your browser to remember key pieces of information about you so that, when you revist that website, everything is as you left it and you can pick up right where you left off.
What is HTML5 Local Storage?
HTML5 Local Storage allows web applications to store information inside your browser. You can store larger chunks of data in Local Storage and, crucially, all the data stored here remains local to your device; it never gets passed to a server or and cannot be accessed on another device. Local Storage is often used in modern web applications to store the current 'state' of the app so that, when you close the browser window and return to it later, it's exactly how you left it.
What is IndexedDB?
IndexedDB allows web applications to store a database inside your browser. It is very useful for storing large amounts of data, particularly when this data is split up into small components. In statscloud, we use this to store the information from your 'saved' project so all the data you create in the app is synced with this database and it remains there until you delete it. As with HTML5 Local Storage, all the data stored in this database remains local to your device; it can never be accessed by any device other than the one you are viewing it on.
What types of cookies are used on statscloud.app?
Cookies can largely be categoried into four main categories (summarised below) and all are in use by statscloud:
Strictly neccessary cookies: These cookies are neccessary for statscloud to work. You can disable them, but doing so would disrupt your interaction with the website. In statscloud.app, an example of a strictly neccessary cookie is a cookie that (rather ironically) logs whether you have consented to use cookies on the website (so it knows to enable or disable them).
Analytical/performance cookies: These cookies are designed to provide us with some information about how statscloud is used and what devices it is being used on. We have these cookies in place so we can understand what the needs of our users are (e.g. what type of devices are being used to view statscloud and on which browsers) and tweak the design of the website to make sure that everybody has a good user-experience. All of the information collected by these cookies is anonymous so you cannot be identified from them.
Functionality cookies: These cookies contain information about your preferences when using the website. For example, when you click a button that says "don't show this message again", these cookies store your preference so statscloud.app knows not to show you that message again.
Targeting cookies: These cookies record your activity on the web (e.g. which pages you have visited and which links you have clicked on). These cookies are used by third-parties in statscloud.app, and they may use them to understand more about your behaviour on the web so they can target you with advertising.
We have chosen which cookies to have in place on statscloud.app carefully so that only neccessary information about your visit is collected and stored. For more information about how your privacy is respected, please see the statscloud.app privacy policy.
What cookies are in use on statscloud:
The cookies in place are either first-party cookies (cookies created by us, and used by statscloud.app) or third-party cookies (cookies created by other services, e.g. Google Analytics).
