This privacy policy was last updated on July 2nd 2023.
Introduction
This privacy policy applies to all pages hosted at 'statscloud.app' (including the main website and the app itself). It is designed to tell you about how statscloud handles your personal data (what information it collects and how it stores these).
Security of user information
statscloud doesn't collect any personal information about its users; no personal details are stored or sent to statscloud, so the app can be used completely anonymously. statscloud therefore doesn’t share any personally identifying information about you publicly or with third-parties, because it can't.
Google Analytics
Some technical information about users on the statscloud.app website is provided through Google Analytics; a very common platform used by many websites and webapps. Google Analytics collects technical information about the device you're using (for instance, your browser version, operating system, and screen settings). This is neccessary to get a feel for what devices are most commonly used for statscloud so it be developed and improved for the purposes of user experience. Google Analytics anonymises all IP addresses by default so there is no way statscloud can connect technical information to any individual.
You can read more about Google Analytics here (and more about it's IP anonymisation feature here). You can also see which 'Google Analytics' cookies are enabled (and how to switch them off) in our cookie policy.
Cloud storage platforms
statscloud provides an option for you to import a dataset from well-known cloud storage platforms, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. To make use of these services, you will need to log in to them in a separate browser window and choose the file you would like to import into statscloud from that window. When you have selected a file, the statscloud app recieves information about the file so it can import its contents for you. Currently, statscloud is set up such that it is only able to access and read the contents of spreadsheet files (e.g..csv files) you have stored on these platforms when you have logged in to them. The contents of any other files are not viewed or processed by statscloud.
You can also see which 'Google Accounts'and 'Dropbox' cookies are enabled (and how to switch them off) in our cookie policy.
Security of data
Some users may want to use statscloud to handle data sets that contain sensitive information (e.g. demographic details that identify individuals). statscloud was built with this in mind, and this section is designed to tell you everything you need to know about how this data is handled.
When you use statscloud, none of the data in your data set ever leaves your device. None of your data is sent to or stored on a server, even temporarily, so absolutely nothing about your data set (the data or the analyses) is seen by anyone other than you. statscloud runs entirely within your browser window and does not need any interaction with a server to function, so none of your data is cached anywhere (on or offline) without you knowing. These data privacy considerations make statscloud very safe and secure to use, and suitable for both educational and professional institutions.
General Data Protection Guidelines
With the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) now in operation in Europe, it's very important any sensitive, personal data is stored in a secure place. For some, this could include a GDPR-Compliant cloud storage service (such as G-Suite, Dropbox for Business, or OneDrive for Business) or your own private server. statscloud was built with GDPR reglulations in mind, and retrieves your dataset from these services on your request. When you retrieve your data from an cloud service, it goes straight from there to your computer, just as if you are downloading a file normally. Absolutely no data passes through a server or is seen by statscloud.
Changes to this policy
We review our privacy policy regularly, so please do check back on occasions to stay up to date. We will always provide a date of the last update at the top of this page so it's easier for you to keep track of when any changes have been made.
